LP Illinois News - February 2008 #2
Membership Survey Results
If you are a member of the LP Illinois, you should have received a letter from our State Chair, Val Vetter, asking for your opinion on whether we should proceed with the Vote Libertarian Illinois project and get our candidates on the November ballot.
Of the 1072 letters sent, we received 154 replies (14%). Of those, 53% were Green (proceed and I'll contribute by either collecting petition signatures or donating money), 32% were Yellow (proceed, but I'm not contributing) , and 16% were Red (do not proceed). Adding the Green and Yellow votes together, 84% are in favor of the petition drive.
Our thanks to everyone who responded. Every comment has been read and is appreciated.
We received pledges for 4680 signatures and $4565, giving us a solid foundation for a successful petition drive. If you haven't yet pledged signatures or dollars to the petition drive, you can still send your survey back or email your pledge to VLI@LPIllinois.org.
State Organizing Committee (SOC) Meeting 2/28
The SOC will meet via teleconference on Thursday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. Dominating the agenda will be a go/no-go decision on the Vote Libertarian Illinois petition drive. The decision will be based on a number of factors, including the amount of funding and signature pledges received from national, state, chapters, and individuals plus validation of the other plan assumptions.
The SOC is comprised of the LP Illinois Officers plus the representatives from our local chapters. LP Illinois members are invited to attend the meeting as well, although they are not eligible to vote. If you would like more information about the meeting, email Chair@LPIllinois.org.
Petition Drive Challenge Pledges
We now have 2 challenge pledges looking for takers: our first is an anonymous $1000 pledge if matched by another individual $1000 pledge. The second is by Julie Fox, who has pledged to collect 500 signatures, but will collect another 500 if someone will match her 1000 signature pledge.
A match to either of these challenges would give the petition drive a huge boost. To make our day, call 800-735-1776 or email VLI@LPIllinois.org.
Stafford for Senate Campaign Update
Larry Stafford, our LP Illinois candidate for U.S. Senate, has been hard at work getting his campaign underway. He is currently crafting campaign positions for his upcoming website. A brief overview can be found on our website, LPIllinois.org in the Campaigns area on the Candidates page.
Like every political campaign, Larry's will go as far as his volunteers and donors take him. Larry is seeking a campaign manager as well as a board of advisors and other volunteers. If you would like to talk about contributing to Larry's campaign, email info@Stafford4Senate.com.
Donations can be sent to:
Stafford for US Senate
PO Box 368
South Beloit, IL 61080-0368
November will be here soon. The libertarian movement in Illinois will benefit tremendously by the Stafford for Senate campaign receiving just 5% of the vote. Your contribution, either by funding his campaign or volunteering your help, will make a difference.
Talent Search: Design
The LP Illinois brochure is available to download from our website, LPIllinois.org, in the About Us area on the Leader Resources page. The brochure is due for a tune up, however. We have a new logo and photos from the website redesign that can be incorporated into a sharper image for Illinois Libertarians.
If you have the talent to take our brochure to the next level, call us at 800-735-1776. The brochure been in demand lately for outreach and we'll be needing many more for the petition drive, so now would be a great time to lend your talent to promoting liberty in Illinois.
