What are the main goals of the Libertarian Party?
The Libertarian Party’s purpose is to move public policy in a libertarian direction, maximizing education, health, safety, prosperity, and tolerance for you and your family. The way we get there is by reducing the size and power of government, freeing individuals to achieve their maximum potential.
We are a long way from a libertarian society. How can we get there?
We can start today by helping more Libertarians get elected to public office. In sufficient numbers, Libertarian officials will shrink the government to its only legitimate function: protecting people from force and fraud. Individual members can also help by staying in touch with their elected representatives, contacting them to express their libertarian opinion about pending legislation.
What specific steps would Libertarians take as elected officials?
There are many possibilities, here are a few examples:
- Oppose and vote against laws that increase the cost, size, or power of government.
- Reduce and eliminate many government agencies and cut the resulting taxes
- Repeal regulations restricting or regulating personal and commercial activities that do not involve coersion or fraud
- Remove funding of causes, corporations, and other nations
- Revoke government licenses that allow harmful pollution of the environment
Why did the Party do X in the past?
Involved members at the time decided it was the best thing to do. If you don't like a decision that was made, we invite you to become involved in the Party and influence future decisions.
Why doesn't the Party do Y in the future?
The LP is always looking for people like you to step up and implement great ideas. Contact us to send your suggestion and how you will help make it happen by volunteering or funding the effort. Our reach is limited only by the resources our members and supporters bring to the Party.
