Steve Funk
Candidate for: 18th District State Representative to the General Assembly
Personal Bio: Steve Funk has lived in Evanston, Illinois for over seven years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin and has extensive professional experience in sales and service management.

Why running: Business as usual is putting Illinois out of business. We need bold, creative, and swift action. The entrenched political establishment lacks the necessary resolve to confront the harsh realities of this unprecedented fiscal meltdown.
The entire function, structure, and "business model" of state government must be re-examined and rebuilt from the bottom up. Any government "services" already available via the private sector, non-profits, and charities need to be defunded. Unneeded state assets should be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Redundant departments and staff positions must be merged or eliminated. Lavish pension and insurance benefits for state employees must be scaled back to reflect the marketplace.
As State Representative, I will insist upon REAL solutions to our budgetary woes, not temporary smokescreens like tax hikes and nominal spending cuts.
Only after we rip off the band-aid will our state recover and re-emerge stronger and more prosperous than ever.
