Petition Drive Overview
Imagine the November 2010 election was being held today. You walk into the voting booth and review the choices for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller, Secretary of State, Treasurer, and US Senate. Each would look something like this:
- Candidate (D) - Vote for me and I'll run your life in a blue way
- Candidate (G) - Vote for me and I'll run your life in a green way
- Candidate (R) - Vote for me and I'll run your life in a red way
Do you want a better choice?
- Candidate (L) - Vote for me and I'll allow peaceful, honest people to run their lives their own way
If you think that government meddling, taxing, and spending are out of control, you want to vote Libertarian in the next general election.
Will you be able to vote Libertarian?
Illinois election law requires us to collect 50,000 petition signatures between March 23 and June 18, just to have a reasonable shot at getting our candidates on the ballot.
We plan to collect those signatures with a combination of volunteer and paid petitioners. Can we get enough volunteers to collect enough signatures? Can we raise enough money to pay for the rest? Only you can tell us.
Will you take action right now?
- Start collecting signatures. Download the petition form, ask your family and friends, walk around your neighborhood, visit busy locations, and attend events like fairs or parades. If you have never collected signatures before, download the How-to document and the FAQs.
- Donate so that others can collect signatures for you. To supplement our volunteer effort, we are hiring professionals at a standard $1 per signature. That means a $100 donation will purchase 100 signatures.
- Become a Petition Drive Coordinator or Mentor. Coordinators are a contact point for petitioners in their area and mentors go out with new petitioners and show them how to be successful. View the list of current Petition Drive Coordinators and Mentors.
- Target a donation to cover specific costs. It takes $500 to purchase the Illinois voters' list from the State Board of Elections. Another $500 would purchase LP Illinois brochures for our petitioners to hand out to signers. Making a copy of our stack of completed petitions will cost about $350 and the room to tabulate and collate them in as well as feed our hungry volunteers, $200.
If you want to vote for Libertarian candidates in November 2010, please start collecting signatures or donate today. The clock is ticking towards our June 21 filing deadline and we need 575 signatures collected each and every day of the drive to make it.
